Classification of Geomembranes

Nov 12, 2019

The geomembrane is made of a plastic film as a barrier substrate. The resins are mainly HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, PVC, ECB, EVA, etc. It is a polymer chemical flexible material with a small specific gravity and strong elongation, corrosion resistance, good frost resistance. So, how should we distinguish the types of geomembranes?

HDPE Anti-seepage Geomembrane
The raw material is polyethylene plastic, which is a kind of milky white granule, non-toxic, odorless, and the relative density is in the range of 0.940g/cm3 to 0.976g/cm3, and has excellent temperature resistance and cold resistance. As a new type of composite material, it can adapt to a wide range of temperature, between -70 degrees Celsius and +70 degrees Celsius, and has a service life of 70 years. HDPE geomembrane is widely used in the waterproof layer of food, shelter, and garbage disposal sites, and solid waste landfill waterproofing. Water layer, sewage treatment station waterproof layer, artificial lake waterproof layer, tailings treatment and other waterproof layer engineering projects.
HDPE geomembrane is the most widely used one in the world among all of the geomembrane types.

LLDPE Anti-seepage Geomembrane
Its raw material is linear high-pressure polyethylene, LLDPE products are non-toxic, odorless, milky white particles. Compared with LDPE, LLDPE has the advantages of high compressive strength, high rigidity, high temperature resistance and cold resistance. It also has excellent resistance to natural environment stress cracking and tear strength. Smooth LLDPE Geomembrane also has acid, alkali and solvent resistance.

ECB Anti-seepage Geomembrane
Its raw material is butadiene butyl acrylate prepolymer, which has high quality flexibility, cold resistance, ductility, resistance to ground stress cracking, and light proportion. It is very suitable for waterproof coating on the inner surface of vaulted panels. The ECB waterproof board has a thickness of 0.6-2.0mm, a width of 2.0m-4.2m, and a length of 20-100m.

EVA Anti-seepage Geomembrane
Its raw material is butadiene-butyl acrylate prepolymer, which has the following advantages:
1. Abrasion resistance: closed cell structure, non-hygroscopic, waterproof, and excellent wear resistance.
2. Corrosion resistance: resistant to sea surface, vegetable oil, acid, alkali and other chemicals, bacteriostatic, non-toxic, odorless, zero pollution.
3. Process performance: no joints, and it is easy to carry out production and processing such as pressing, cutting, dispensing, and catering.
4. Anti-vibration: high resilience and anti-tension, high ductility, excellent anti-seismic and cache characteristics.
5. Insulation: heat insulation, heat insulation, antifreeze and ultra-low temperature characteristics, can withstand cold and exposure. Insulation: Closed cells, sound and noise reduction.
